IN THE WORKPLACE TRAINING GROUP Producers
of an audio-visual drama series called "Tilly's Tavern" aimed
at creating awareness of HIV/AIDS in the workplace. The programme takes the shape
of a typical "Soap Opera" that involves viewers in the lives of the
characters from episode to episode. It was created with the purpose of using proven
psychological techniques to change people's attitudes and behaviour towards the
pandemic and contrasts with the traditional and ineffective health promotion techniques
that rely solely on targeting systemic or logical reasoning. Tilly's Tavern
is aimed at reaching people on an emotional level. There
are 13 episodes in the series and every episode deals with various issues around
HIV/AIDS that is brought to light in the lives and actions of the characters.
"Tilly's Tavern" is designed to be facilitated and a comprehensive
facilitator's manual and training to Peer Educators is part of the process.
